About the USMC CFT
The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) is the second of the Marine Corps' two annual fitness assessments, alongside the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Unlike the PFT, the CFT elements are identical for every Marine regardless of age or gender — only the scoring tables used to convert your raw result into points differ by age and sex. The minimum combined score to pass is 150 points, and the minimum standard must be met in every individual event separately.
The Three Events
- Movement to Contact (MTC): an 880-yard sprint simulating closing the distance to contact.
- Ammunition Can Lift (AL): repeated overhead lifts of a 30-lb ammunition can in 2 minutes, simulating loading supplies.
- Maneuver Under Fire (MANUF): a timed course combining sprinting, a low crawl, high crawl, casualty drag/carry, ammo can carry, and a grenade throw for accuracy.
Grenade Throw Time Adjustment
During Maneuver Under Fire, Marines throw a dummy grenade at a target mid-course. Five seconds are deducted from the overall MANUF time for a hit, and five seconds are added for a miss, before that time is converted to points. Enter your raw finish time and select hit or miss — this calculator applies the adjustment for you.
Data Source
This calculator uses the official USMC CFT scoring tables from MCO 6100.13A (Table 3-3 Movement to Contact, Table 3-4 Ammunition Lift, Table 3-5 Maneuver Under Fire, as amended through Change 4). The Marine Corps updates fitness standards periodically — always confirm your official score through MCTIMS/Marine-On-Line, and check for the current MCO before relying on this for a record test, promotion, or fitness report.
Frequently Asked Questions
What events are on the USMC CFT?
Three events: Movement to Contact (880-yard sprint), the Ammunition Can Lift, and Maneuver Under Fire. Each is scored 0-100 points for a 300-point maximum, and all Marines perform the same course regardless of age or gender.
What's a passing CFT score?
150 combined points or more, with the minimum standard met in every individual event. Missing the minimum in any single event fails the entire test regardless of your total.
Is the CFT the same as the PFT?
No, they're two separate tests. The PFT measures general strength, core, and aerobic fitness (pull-ups/push-ups, plank, 3-mile run) — see our PFT calculator. The CFT measures combat-specific movement. Marines must pass both annually.
